ANZAC Day - 25 April 2009 - West Australia
The Chairman of the West Australia SAMVOA Region has published the following message after the 2009 ANZAC Day parade in Perth:
I was once again privileged to lead the SAMVOA contingent in the 2009 Anzac Day Parade through the streets of Perth on Saturday, 25 April 2009 in memory of our countrymen who make the supreme sacrifice.
Many of our members attended the Dawn Service in Kings Park, after which we enjoyed a Gunfire Breakfast in Stirling Gardens prior to forming up for the parade. We were privileged to have two World War 2 Veterans join the march this year.Veteran Graham Casely served with 60 Squadron South African Air Force in North Africa and is also a Moth from Battleaxe Shellhole in Port Alfred and Veteran John Nelson who served with the South African 6th Division in Italy. Both were afforded pride of place in our squad, below and directly behind the SAMVOA banner. It was an honour to march with them.

Other members on parade were;
Mark Coldrey, Peter Colvin, Riaan De Villiers, Ron Fouche, Charlie Griffin, Leon Johnson, Barry Laing, Michael Lord, John McCrum, Philip Niman, Ben Opperman,
Garth Pienaar, Shaun Porter, Donovan Roets, Andrew Scoggings, Dawn Weller, Michael Sutherland MLA, Johan van der Merwe, Kevin van der Mescht, Alfie van Zijl and Darrryll Visser.

After the parade we were joined by family and friends for a picnic in Kings Park.
I wish to extend my sincere thanks to all who attended and who, in so doing, honoured the memory of our countrymen who made the supreme sacrifice on the battlefields of Africa, Europe, Asia on the Sea and in the Air.

We will Remember Them.
To all who marched, you made SAMVOA proud and it was an honour and privilege to have marched with you.
To those that were unable to attend, we look forward to marching with you next year.
Garth A Pienaar
