It was a great honour and privilege for me to once again lead the West Australian SAMVOA contingent in the 93rd Anzac Day Anniversary parade held in St Georges Terrace, Perth in memory of our countrymen who made the supreme sacrifice on the battlefields of Africa, Europe, Asia on the Sea and in the Air.

We had 23 members on parade, and pride of place was given to the Deputy Lord Mayor of Perth, Michael Sutherland who marched in memory of his father, Warrant Officer William "Bill" Sutherland who served with the South African Engineering Corps of the Union Defence Force in Egypt during World War 2.

The day started with the traditional Dawn Service held in Kings Park after which we assembled for a Gunfire Breakfast in Stirling Gardens in the city and then formed up along St Georges Terrace for the annual Anzac Day parade. As usual the parade route was lined by thousands of people of all ages who had come to remember the fallen and to ensure that the Anzac spirit and all that it stands for continues to be honoured.

After the parade some of the Veterans and their families attended a picnic in Kings Park.

A big thank you to all the Veterans who attended the parade and to those that were not able to attend, we look forward to marching with you in 2009.
